Constructive Critisim

I’ve finally learned the art of constructive criticism. ‘Constructive’ is the key word here! I was never constructively criticizing myself… I was always drowning in self-pity & remorse over my mistakes. The goal for today, instead of beating myself up for making a mistake, I want to use it as a tool to build a better me!

Have a great day everybody!

Does Everything Happen For A Reason?

Does Everything Happen For A Reason? Yes, of course it does… but what is the reason? That’s the more important question.

This is a question that I’ve asked a thousand times… that I’ve been asked a thousand times… that I’ve heard asked a thousand times… & there is an answer!

As intelligent beings, I believe that we have gotten really good at over analyzing things & distracting our selves from some really simple, basic, truths (God knows I’m guilty of it). I want to proceed with caution here because analyzation is a vitally important part of life! I’m not suggesting that we stop analyzing! What I am suggesting is that we keep our analysis simple & to the point.

Example: Let’s say my home is destroyed by a volcano… did this happen because God needed to teach me a lesson? Or did it really happen because I built my house at the base of a volcano?

The fact of the matter is that when something bad happens it is because someone did the ‘wrong’ thing. When something good happens it is because someone did the ‘right’ thing.

Have a great day everybody!

Political Spending

I don’t know much about politics & maybe that’s why I am a strong believer that we need to simplify our politics!

I was recently having a discussion with someone and I said “the government needs to cut spending” and the person I was speaking with said “Oh, it sounds like we’ve got a Republican on our hands”. Again, I don’t know a lot about politics so I didn’t realize that suggesting some spending cuts made me a Republican. I thought that not spending more than you have was more of a common sense statement than a political statement. I certainly don’t want to offend anyone… if, in your opinion, it’s ok to be 16 trillion in debt, that’s your business and everyone is entitled to their opinions, but the more I study the politics of the men who built this country, the more I realize just how simple & powerful their beliefs were.

“The policy of the American government is to leave their citizens free, neither restraining nor aiding them in their pursuits.” ~Thomas Jefferson

That just seems so simple! Don’t take what I’ve earned from me… and don’t give to me what I have not earned.

The problem with the excessive spending is this… it very simply is not the governments job to take care of us & the more we ask them to, the more they control us rather than ‘We The People’ control them.

Have a great day everybody!

“IF” There Is a God

About 8 years ago, my life & my problems had piled up on me to the breaking point. I tried everything that I could dream up to fix it & nothing worked. Finally I was told that my problems were being caused by my own defects of character; I was selfish, resentful, dishonest & afraid. Those 4 things were causing me to have trouble with personal relationships, to lose control of my own emotions, to feel miserable, depressed & unhappy… I was full of fear & couldn’t be helpful or useful to anyone. Then I had this conversation with a friend that changed my whole way of living & thinking.

A friend: Relying on God will solve all of your problems.
Me: But I don’t believe in God.
A friend: So
Me: What do you mean “so”!?
A friend: You don’t have to believe in God to rely on Him.
Me: So what do I do?
A friend: Before you speak or act, ask yourself this question “IF there is a God, is this what He would have me do or say right now?”
Example: IF there is a God, would He want me to shoot up heroin?
I bet you came up with the same answer I did, whether you believe in God or not. I still don’t believe in God the same way most people do, but I am absolutely 100% certain that there is something out there guiding me & that guidance is always available… if I ask for it!

Have a great day everybody!

Facing Fear

As a kid, I had a recurring dream…

At the end of a long hallway was a landing that went down 3 steps & something was always peeking its head over the top step & in an incredibly eerie voice, it would whisper my name… Jeff… Jeff. I would pull the blankets over my head & hide from it. This went on for years until one day I pulled the blanket off my head, sat up, looked it straight in the eye & said…

“What… what the hell do you want”

I never had that dream again.
The goal for today, face my fears because facing them is the key to overcoming them!

Have a great day everybody!

Life, Liberty & The Pursuit of Happiness

“Life, Liberty & The Pursuit of Happiness”

My God owes me nothing! He gave me Life… what more could I ask of Him?

My Country owes me nothing! She gave me Liberty… what more could I ask of Her?

My Heart owes me nothing! It gave me Happiness… what more could I ask of it?

The goal for today, ask for less & give more! Have a great day everybody!

Why?

The past few years I have been asking myself “Why?” to a number of questions that I previously would have written off as unimportant or unanswerable.

For example… I’m terrible with names.

Now I can just make up a reason like “I have a bad memory” or I can ask “Why?” & find the Truth.

For me the Truth is this… I am bad with names because I’m not listening to you & I’m not listening to you because I’m more concerned with leaving you with a good first impression of me.

What I failed to realize is that taking the time to listen to you & actually caring about what you have to say & who you are, would probably have left a much better first impression than waiting for you to stop speaking so I could tell you what a great guy I am.

The goal for today, listen to & care about the people around me & my reputation will take care of itself.

Have a great day everybody!

Patience, Tolerance, Kindliness & Love

At one point in my life, I claimed that I was practicing ‘tolerance’… then one day someone asked me what I thought the word tolerance meant. My definition of tolerance, at that time, was: The ability to put up with someone or something. The person that I was speaking to suggested that my understanding of the word tolerance might be slightly skewed. So I went home, opened my dictionary & sure enough, the definition in the dictionary was much different than the one in my head.

Tolerance: To respect others beliefs, practices, etc. without sharing them.

Now that I know the true meaning of tolerance maybe I can practice true tolerance. Imagine what the world might be like if we could be more tolerant of one another.

Yesterday my blog was titled “Politics & Religion”… had I posted those two words on Facebook, I would probably have been attacked by fifty people, but the blogging community, at least from what I’ve seen so far, appears to be infinitely more tolerant than other platforms.

I’d like to say thank you to the members of this community for being tolerant & allowing people to express themselves, openly & honestly because if we can’t communicate with each other openly & honestly & continue to respect each other, as fellow human beings, then humanity doesn’t have a chance.

My goal for today is to practice Patience, Tolerance, Kindliness & Love, to the best of my ability, toward all! Have a great day everybody!

Politics & Religion

God is a fact & religion an opinion. Politics are a fact & parties an opinion. Just want to make that clear first!

The best way to insure that this country falls apart is to not talk about God & politics. Someone brought these 2 topics up to me a few years back & I asked them, very politely, to change the subject, & their response was “Grow up!”.

“The God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God?” ~Thomas Jefferson.

This country was founded on the rock solid foundation of “In God We Trust”. To not talk about God is like taking a jackhammer to that foundation.

“Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn’t mean politics won’t take an interest in you.” ~Pericles (430 BC).

Big government stomps all over the people of this great nation because we let it. If “We The People” don’t talk about politics then the government is free to do whatever it pleases… it will have it’s filthy way with us.

The goal for today & everyday for the rest of my life, learn how to be Free properly… talk about God & politics with people, in an attempt to become more educated on these 2 topics because if we don’t, there will be no Freedom for our children & our grandchildren! Have a great day everybody!

Common Defense

I have this theory that The U.S. Constitution is a principle based instruction manual that absolutely, 100% guarantees success if it’s instructions are understood & followed.

It starts with understanding… you can’t possess something that you don’t understand (JWVG).
Then comes possession… you can’t transmit something that you don’t possess.
So once I understand something, I can possess it… once I possess something, I can transmit it or teach it to others.

Here is an example of a constitutional principle… ‘Common Defense’… first I have to understand what it means. Common Defense means that it is the purpose of the U.S. military to defend the American people’s freedom. Now, I want to understand this at it’s simplest level first. If I go looking for someone to push around, for any reason, then I’m a bully. If I cower to the bullies, then I’m a victim. If I’m kind & respectful of others yet I defend myself when necessary, then I’m an American.

So the principle of Common Defense is this… we cannot scatter our military all over the world & expect them to defend America… we cannot go on the offensive for money & power & expect to get peace from it… we absolutely cannot be in a continual state or war or conflict & expect to maintain our freedom.

Our founding fathers said it like this: “America does not go abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She well knows that by enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standards of freedom.” ~John Quincy Adams (1821)
