Do You Believe In Universal Healthcare?

After reading my last post “We Can’t Legislate Humanity” a friend asked me if I believe in universal healthcare & this was my response:

Yes, I believe in universal health care as long as it is being provided & regulated by human beings… not governments. I believe that the Proper Name for universal healthcare is ‘Humanity’. It’s not the governments job to take care of, or force me to take care of, my own health.

Here is how Thomas Jefferson felt about it… this is one of my all time favorite quotes:

“The care of every man’s soul belongs to himself. But what if he neglect the care of it? Well what if he neglect the care of his health or his estate, which would more nearly relate to the state. Will the magistrate make a law that he not be poor or sick? Laws provide against injury from others; but not from ourselves. God himself will not save men against their wills.” ~Thomas Jefferson.

I have a friend who is a Free Mason & they said that the best way to describe what Free Masonry is all about is this… “Who will feed the widows orphan?”. I had to mull this over for a while but here is my translation… it is ‘our’ job, as human beings, to care for the less fortunate. It was not… is not… & never will be, the governments job to take care of the needy. We need to get back to clearly defining roles! The governments role in this country is to insure that I have the opportunity to help the less fortunate… primarily by not taking from me the fruits of my labor. It is my role to use the fruits of my labor to help the less fortunate. NEVER was it intended for me to surrender the fruits of my labor to the government so that they can help the less fortunate!

HOW DID WE GET HERE???
& more importantly…
HOW DO WE FIX IT???

Food for thought on a Sunday morning 🙂 Have a great day everybody!
